7 Tips On How To Build Your Self-Confidence In Your Workouts Part 5 Of 8: How To Make Your New Habits Stickable

Workouts and creating new healthy behaviors can get so boring. I am being honest. Let’s face it, how boring does it get to do the same thing day in and day out. Discipline makes us stronger and wiser..yeah, yeah, yeah. I agree, but it still can get boring when we are making new habits. Even if you switch up your exercises or your workout style, the “stickiness” of your commitment to your new habits can began to wane as you begin to establish some serious blahs in your attitude (and some serious growths within yourself).

How many times have you felt rejuvenated and refreshed after trying something new? It is invigorating, right? Adding something new can spark creativity, excitement, and open up blocks that have been holding you back. These can be scientifically proven or personally proven. It is all about connecting into those activities and thought-processes, just at the right time, to shake your world and reinvent your mental excitement!

Adding in adjustments or new tools into your routine could be exactly what you need to build the confidence and push to get your new healthy lifestyle to stick and/or take it to the next level. Maybe it is hiring a personal trainer for your workouts. Maybe it is going to cooking classes to learn how to make healthier foods. Maybe it is taking a yoga class to learn mind-body connection. It really is personal. See, as you grow and change, your needs will change. And as they change, what was once motivating and exciting becomes not and the proverbial tree needs to be shook to drop more seeds of growth for you. I have tried so many tricks and tools to shake my own tree up- some were successful and others failed miserably- but one of my favorites that has rocked my world over the past year is the addition of essential oils.

Using essential oils improves my healthy lifestyle changes personally and scientifically. Research after research has shown the effects of certain oils for certain outcomes, so much so that traditional medicine is now getting on board and supporting their use in areas like healing nausea and anxiety and fatigue in facilities nationwide.

Even though I use essential oils daily for helping me to manage anxiety, sadness, fear, worry, fatigue, anger, etc. etc., I am going to focus today on how adding in essential oils to my workouts and less energetic days has changed my rhythm and my mindset to push through and get things done. These essential oils have raised my inner vibration and have pushed me into a new place that has allowed me to rely on them less because new habits and mindsets are taking hold. I am suggesting these from my own personal place of experience and from reading countless of articles on the effects that others have had. What I have come to know as a truth is that, essentially, essential oils can heal and get you over your hump and give you a natural “high” like nothing you have ever experienced. What are my favorites and in my motivational first-aid kit?

Peppermint. After a long exhausting day at work or a much-needed energy boost to get you through your workouts, peppermint puts some pep in your step and helps your body rejuvenate and calm while in a energetic state. Peppermint also helps to decrease food cravings and can help to curb your appetite.

Lavender. Lavender helps to decrease feelings of anxiety and worry. So, if you are feeling increased tension and worry about starting a new workout program where you may feel intimidated, lavender can help you through that uncomfortable situation. Lavender is also a tremendous healer for bruises and aching muscles. Mixing a drop or two of lavender oil with peppermint oil and rubbing it on your temples can help to alleviate headaches and migraines.

Frankincense. This powerful oil is healing on so many levels. For spiritual enlightenment, frankincense can be used while praying, meditating or reading to increase spiritual awareness. For workouts it helps to improve the circulation and lower symptoms of joint or muscle pain. It is an anti-inflammatory and fantastic on issues like arthritis, digestion and asthma.

“Motivate.” This is actually a blend of essential oils made by doTERRA essential oils. This is one of my absolute favorites and it is my go-to when I need a quick energetic pick-me-up or when I am feeling like I need a boost in my mental clarity.

How to use them?

  • Mix it in a carrier oil (almond, coconut, jojoba oil, etc) and apply it directly to your skin
  • Put 2-3 drops in your hand, cup over your nose, and breath deeply for 10 inhales
  • Put a drop or two in your lotion before applying it to your body
  • Put a few drops into your bathwater
  • Use a diffuser to defuse it in your house or your car
  • Drop a drop on your shirt collar
  • Mix a drop in carrier oil and rub underneath your nose
  • Massage it on the area that you have pain
  • Massage it where you intuitively feel that it needs to go

There are so many ways that you can use essential oils. The above are just some ideas to get you started. The key thing with essential oil use is to remember— more is not necessarily better. Only use a drop or two here and there and increase depending on the volume of the carrier that you are diluting it in.
